OUR PROGRAMS
WHAT WE TEACH
TRADITIONAL WUSHU
Originating in ancient China, traditional wushu (literally 'martial arts' and often referred to as kung fu in the west) was created from the need for self-defense and survival, as well as an art of war. Varying widely in methods, the traditional wushu taught at BRMA is known as Tanglang Quan or Mantis Boxing.
Named after the Praying Mantis, a relatively small insect that is capable of taking on much larger opponents, Mantis Boxing combines highly agile footwork with striking, kicking and limb trapping before ultimately finishing with a wrestling throw or chin na submission (joint lock or constriction).
SANDA & JUJITSU
Built upon Traditional Wushu techniques, Sanda is a modern, holistic unarmed combat sport that combines punching & kicking with wrestling, throwing, and sweeps.
Further augmenting our Sanda program is Jujitsu. Jujitsu focuses on close quarters combat and specializes in all forms of grappling techniques (throwing, takedowns, sweeps and controlling techniques)
WEAPON FIGHTING
We draw from both Historical European Weapon Fighting and Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Weapon Fighting to train students in the use of traditional weapons as instruments of fighting, modern self-defense and sport fencing. Class focuses on Jian (straight sword), Dao (single edged saber), Qiang (Spear), Gùn (Staff) and short stick.
*All classes geared towards teens and adults. Youth under the age of 13 admitted on a case by case basis.
